Thanet Tiles of Joy
Jayne Wright

Thanet Tiles of Joy a ceramic art project connecting our community in clay.

Make your own tile!
Saturday 17 & 24 June
Here at the Shop Front

Jayne Wright began this ambitious community art project with a Margate WI workshop in February 2023. In March tiles were made at POW Thanet workshops to celebrate International Women’s Day, 76 people made tiles here at Margate Caves in one hour!

The collection of tiles is growing all the time with Thanet WIs, Girl Guides, Thanet Schools, Turner Contemporary, Ramsgate HSAZ and local businesses joining the Joy. The dream is to one day have a trail of tiles connecting the 19 villages and towns in Thanet. Here is a quiz – can you name all 19 Thanet towns and villages?

There is a permanent site for the tiles in Margate, other permanent sites are still being sought so if you know of a wall please do get in touch. Watch this space for a tile making day to be held right here. Margate Caves will be holding a workshop to celebrate their heritage day in September. If you are a school or organisation that would like to join this project and hold a workshop please get in touch.

Finally please buy a poster the profits go towards funding this project which so far has been funded by community groups.
